During client consultations, I'd proudly launch into detailed explanations about protein synthesis, nutrient timing, and metabolic adaptation. I'd reference fitness studies and research, feeling like the expert I thought I was.
What I missed was the glazed look in my clients' eyes.
They weren't impressed—they were confused. They weren't absorbing anything useful. Worse, I was harming them by implying these complex fitness details were essential to their success.
Without realizing it, my "expertise" had become the very barrier preventing me from helping people achieve their fitness goals. I was so focused on demonstrating my knowledge that I forgot about delivering results.
